About MashKey
MashKey is a browser-based music studio where your computer keyboard is the instrument. Nothing to install, no account wall to get past to hear it: open the page, press a key, and you are already playing.
What you can do here
MashKey turns everyday keys into sound. The letter rows play notes in a key and scale you choose, the number row drives ten looping patterns, and the number pad fires drums and one-shot effects. You can switch sounds and voices, add chords and harmony, sing over the top, and record as you go. Finished ideas arrange into sections, mix down, and export as audio or stems. Publish a song and it lives in the public gallery, where other players can listen, favourite it, or remix it into something new. Every session also gets its own freshly generated beat, so the loops under your hands belong to your take and not to the same ten bars everyone else is handed.
Play straight from the keys
Letter rows play notes, the number row runs loops, the numpad fires drums. No setup, no plugins.
Record and arrange
Layer takes, sing over the top, arrange sections, then mix and export audio or stems.
Publish and remix
Share a song to the public gallery, or open someone else’s and turn it into your own version.
Who MashKey is for
MashKey is for anyone who has wanted to make music on the computer they already own. That includes total beginners who have never opened a digital audio workstation, keyboard players and producers who want to sketch an idea in seconds, teachers who need something that makes a first music lesson click, and friends who just want to jam together and hear something good come out. Music theory is optional here, never a prerequisite: if you can type, you can play.
Who builds it
MashKey is built by a small, independent studio, Sthetic Creative Group, LLC. We make the whole thing ourselves, from the sound engine that runs live in your browser to the studio, the gallery and the sharing tools, and we keep improving it, with player suggestions welcome. We wanted an instrument that is as quick to pick up as it is to pass on.
